Who we are

A group of adults and children in wheelchairs are standing in front of a new building. They are smiling at the camera.

At Very Special Kids, we believe all children and young people have the right to quality of life, no matter how long or short their life may be.

Every child’s experience with a life-limiting condition is unique, and so is our approach.

Our services span the physical, mental and emotional needs of the children and young people in our care, and their families, so they are always supported in the way they need it most.

The first of its kind in Australia, Very Special Kids House was the vision of our patron and first employee, Sister Margaret Noone. After seeing firsthand the benefits of dedicated children’s hospices in the United Kingdom, Margaret vowed to bring the same level of care to Australia. To this day it remains Victoria’s only children’s hospice.

We are mostly a self-funded charity, relying on the generosity of our community and partners to ensure seriously ill children, young people and their families don’t have to endure their difficult journey alone. If you would like to support us, there are many ways to do so.
