Hospice

Our children’s hospice is a home away from home for the seriously ill children and young people in our care.

Putting your child’s needs at the heart of everything we do, we’ve built a new, warm and welcoming state-of-the-art hospice in 2023, the only children’s hospice in Victoria. Named in honour of our patron, the Sister Margaret Noone Hospice at Very Special Kids House has best practice clinical facilities to support children of every age, nationality and functional capacity.

Featuring bright lounge areas, a soft-play area, music therapy room, multi-sensory room and hydrotherapy pool, it has everything your child needs for an enjoyable and safe stay while receiving the best clinical care. It also offers a semi-private space for adolescents to better respect their maturity and desire for independence.

For those wanting a little outdoor activity, we have an accessible undercover play area and accessible outdoor landscaped playground.

Respite care

During your child’s stay, our team of doctors, nurses, carers, allied health professionals and trained volunteers provide tailored care unique to their needs and work to a routine your child is comfortable with. This offers you and your family the chance to relax knowing your child is in safe hands.

Patient transport

To help make life a little easier for regional families, we can provide free transport from across Victoria to our hospice, through a partnership with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). Your child will travel with an RFDS driver and a Very Special Kids nurse or personal care worker, ensuring they receive quality care while on the road.
