Exploring feelings through colourful graffiti

Three adolescent bereaved siblings from the Ballarat region were invited to participate in a Graffiti Art Workshop.

Facilitator Astrid Thiebault introduced the siblings to the concept of feelings having colours. For example, the colour blue may represent sadness or possibly a feeling of calmness. She then showed the boys the principles of graffiti art and got them to practice the method of using the spray cans on a large sheet of paper, while wearing the appropriate goggles and masks.

The boys took a while to allow themselves to “free flow” with an idea of what they wanted to represent in their art work. According to the participants it was a “great day” and their work was “incredibly cool and very satisfying”. They hoped that they could do it again at another time.
