Fiery footy debate raises $216,000

A contingent of high-profile football personalities engaged in a humorous and sometimes fiery debate that raised $216,000 for families of children with life-threatening conditions.

Hosted by Channel Seven’s Jim Wilson, the Footy Fever Debate entertained 500 guests in the MCC Members Dining Room and tacked the topic of “Should the AFL support charity clubs?” The debate kicked off the Finals Series with robust discussion about the AFL’s equalisation measures.

Former AFL Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetriou, North Melbourne legend Wayne Carey, Channel Seven’s news breaker Mark Stevens showed their charitable side in support of the AFL continuing to provide financial support of the poorer clubs.

However, the crowd voted hands down to award the debate win to the Survival of the Fittest team, which comprised Essendon legend Tim Watson, Geelong premiership captain Tom Harley and musician and entertainer Greg Champion

The Footy Fever Debate is the signature event of the Very Special Kids Piggy Bank Appeal, which aims to raise over $1 million during September to care for children with life-threatening conditions. Merchandise purchases and donations can also be made by clicking here.
