Footy Fever Debate raises over $135,000

A contingent of high-profile football and comedy personalities engaged in a humorous debate to raise more than $135,000 to care for families that have a child with a life-threatening condition.

Hosted by Channel Seven’s Emily Angwin at the MCC Members Dining Room, the Very Special Kids Footy Fever Debate tackled the topic of whether footballers are funnier than comedians.

The debate kicked off the AFL Finals Series with a day of entertainment and conversation about who was the funniest of the two groups.

The team debating the affirmative were Geelong premiership captain Cameron Ling and dual premiership captain Wayne Carey. Australia’s leading musician of AFL and cricket songs Greg Champion and well-known stand-up comedian Dave O’Neil argued that they of course, being the comedians that they are, were definitely the funniest.

While the both teams put forward a great argument, the crowd decided hands down to award the winner of the debate to the team that convincingly proved comedians are funnier than footballers.

The Footy Fever Debate is the signature event of the Very Special Kids Piggy Bank Appeal.
