Inside our VIP weekend

April 2, 2026

Our recent VIP Weekend at Very Special Kids House brought together a small group of young people for a joyful few days focused on connection, confidence and having fun – their way.

From the excitement of the Game Expo to hands‑on activities like making pizza and gyoza, building LEGO and navigating public transport together, the weekend offered opportunities to try new things in a safe, supportive environment.

For many participants, these experiences were a chance to explore their interests, build independence and spend time with other kids who have a similar life experience.

A big part of what made the weekend so special was the support of our Allied Health team.

Music therapist Isaac created spaces for self‑expression and confidence through music, whether that was jamming on instruments, singing along at karaoke or dancing it out together.

Occupational therapist Leo supported practical skill‑building throughout the weekend, helping participants navigate daily activities, manage sensory needs and confidently take on new experiences.

What made the biggest difference, according to participants, was how the weekend felt. Survey feedback showed that friendly staff and having real choice in activities helped everyone feel comfortable and have fun.

When asked what they’d tell another young person about the weekend, responses were simple and enthusiastic: “It was really fun.”, “It was great.” And perhaps best of all – “Let’s do it again!”
